Charge Nurse

The Charge Nurse role supports the achievement of organizational and department-specific goals and objectives. This position works collaboratively as a Charge Nurse, quality management coordinator, and resource for the unit. In the absence of the Director, the Charge Nurse provides administrative backup support.

The Charge Nurse is responsible for coordinating and directing total nursing care for an assigned group of residents/patients during a specific period of duty. This includes full responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of resident/patient care. Additionally, the Charge Nurse participates in patient/resident and family education and provides leadership by working cooperatively with nursing staff and ancillary team members according to established policies, procedures, and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Director in achieving organizational and department objectives.
• Coordinate total nursing care for assigned residents/patients.
• Conduct assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Evaluate patient care outcomes and make necessary adjustments.
• Participate in education for patients/residents and their families.
• Serve as a leader and resource for nursing and ancillary staff.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience.
• License: Active RN license in the State of Maine or Compact RN license.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
