Registered Nurse (RN) / Cardiac Observation

Position Description

The registered nurse in the Cardiac Observation Unit provides a high level of care for patients undergoing catheterization procedures. Responsibilities include evaluating assigned patients, planning, implementing, and documenting nursing care, as well as assisting physicians during examinations and procedures. The Cardiac Observation Unit is focused on prepping and recovering patients for various cardiac procedures, managing high-risk, high-acuity individuals while ensuring superb patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Admit patients to the unit, ensuring thorough assessment and documentation.
• Prepare patients for catheterization procedures, including charting pre-procedure checklists and starting IVs.
• Assist in prepping patients for cardioversions and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).
• Monitor and recover patients after catheterization procedures under conscious sedation.
• Perform sedation, circulate, and document bedside procedures such as cardioversions and TEE.
• Discharge patients with comprehensive teaching, documentation, and physical discharge plans.

Qualifications

• Must possess an active Registered Nurse license in Arizona or a compact state.
• Current certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience.
• Consideration may be given for experience in PACU, ICU, telemetry, cath lab, or surgery centers on a case-by-case basis.

Shift Information

Shifts will vary, typically consisting of three 12-hour shifts. Call requirements include rotational on-call duties approximately once every six to four weeks, covering weekends.
