Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

As a member of the multidisciplinary care team, the RN provides essential nursing care to residents. The RN contributes to overall resident care guided by the individual care plan, established policies and procedures, and professional standards of practice. This role includes direct supervision of Nursing Assistants.

Responsibilities

• Exhibit behaviors aligned with the mission, values, and culture of health services.
• Provide nursing assessments regarding the health status of residents, making diagnoses that form the basis for care strategies.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate care plans based on assessments and diagnoses.
• Coordinate outside physician visits to meet resident medical needs.
• Communicate effectively with physicians and family members to ensure comprehensive resident care.
• Educate residents, families, and staff to promote understanding of care plans.
• Promote and implement the choices philosophy and resident rights.
• Prepare, administer, and document routine and emergency medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Demonstrate knowledge of medications and potential side effects.
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation in clinical records to maintain care continuity.
• Perform safety and infection control procedures to maintain a safe environment.
• Participate in quality assurance programs to meet care standards.
• Serve as the primary contact on assigned shifts, supervising Nursing Assistants to ensure adherence to care plans.
• Utilize skills in IV therapy, including initiating IVs, administering medications, and managing central lines and catheters.
• Coordinate assigned resident care while consulting with the Director of Nursing as necessary.
• Assist in interpreting and implementing facility policies for staff adherence.

Qualifications

• Education requirements commensurate with licensure.
• Current RN license in the State of South Dakota.
• Experience in long-term care is preferred.
• BLS certification.

Physical Requirements

The position requires:

• Visual and auditory abilities to assess resident conditions and provide effective care.
• Ability to verbally communicate and problem-solve effectively with residents, staff, physicians, and families.
• Manual dexterity for administering injections, inserting catheters, and managing medication carts.
• Physical agility to respond promptly to unexpected safety needs of residents.
• Capability to complete forms and records and assist with resident lifting and transferring as necessary.
