Registered Nurse (RN) – Stepdown Cardiac

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse with a focus on stepdown cardiac care. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of cardiac telemetry and demonstrate proficiency in monitoring, interpreting, and managing complex cardiac patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a stepdown cardiac unit.
• Monitor patients’ vital signs and cardiac rhythms, recognizing and interpreting dysrhythmias.
• Manage intravenous cardiac drips and post-cardiac catheterization care.
• Perform sheath removal and provide airway management using non-invasive techniques.
• Assist in the management of patients recovering from various cardiac surgeries and procedures.
• Document care and patient progress using electronic health record systems.

Required Skills and Certifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a cardiac care setting.
• Traveler experience required unless the candidate has over 24 months of direct cardiac experience.
• Proficient in cardiac telemetry, PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown nursing.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and manage high-acuity patients effectively.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Management of arterial lines and wound care (including wound vacs).
• Experience in a charge nurse role.

Unit Details:

• Patient Ratio: 1:6, varying based on acuity.
• Orientation: 24 hours of unit-specific training.
• Shift: Night shifts, 36 hours per week.
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekends in a 4-week period, flexible scheduling available.
• Potential to float to other units as needed.

Patient Diagnoses and Procedures:

• Common diagnoses include Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, and Cardiomyopathy.
• Special procedures may include CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, and various vascular and cardiac surgeries.

Equipment Utilization:

• Experience with Pyxis for medication administration and Epic for documentation.
• Familiarity with cardiac telemetry systems and monitoring equipment.
