Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN)
Shift Information
Night shift from 1830 to 0700; includes every other weekend and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant field.
- Current Illinois nursing license.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills (APS) certification required.
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) manages and coordinates nursing care activities during the client’s hospitalization in accordance with organizational policies and procedures. Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. The RN will direct other personnel involved in client care and maintain professional accountability for all nursing care provided. This position involves working with clients aged 18 years and older.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Organize and coordinate nursing care delivery for assigned clients.
- Demonstrate adaptability to new techniques without performance deficiencies.
- Direct other healthcare personnel in delivering care.
- Engage in regular communication and active listening.
- Stand for extended periods (4-6 hours) as required.
- Provide direct client care activities in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Work with a concentrated level of attention.
- Adjust visual focus as necessary.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) preferred or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrate clinical competence and assume responsibility for personal and professional growth.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and specific software including MS Office applications and Meditech.
Physical Demands
- Ability to grasp and reach with hands/arms.
- Lift up to 25 pounds when assisting clients.
- Required bending, stooping, and walking.
- Maintain good body mechanics to prevent injury.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and direct nursing functions for clients on the unit.
- Make nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of personnel.
- Identify problems and develop solutions using critical thinking skills.
- Create a positive working environment fostering growth and job satisfaction.
- Implement physician orders accurately and promptly.
- Administer and record medications, adhering to policies.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of client information.
- Participate in orientation and in-service training for staff.
- Evaluate personnel performance and recommend actions as needed.
- Adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and provide emergency care when necessary.
- Engage in multidisciplinary treatment planning and adjust care plans as needed.
- Contribute to process improvement activities.
- Support a culture of safety and confidentiality for clients.
- Attend training and departmental meetings as required.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with physicians and team members.
- Uphold and demonstrate the organization’s mission and philosophy.
