Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in Behavioral Health is responsible for managing and coordinating nursing care during the client’s hospitalization, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures. This role includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of client care. The RN will provide direction to and is accountable for the performance of other personnel involved in client care and maintains professional accountability for all nursing activities. This position will primarily work with clients aged 18 and older.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Organize and coordinate delivery of nursing care for assigned clients.
- Demonstrate the ability to adapt to new techniques without performance deficiencies.
- Direct others in healthcare delivery effectively.
- Engage in regular communication and auditory tasks.
- Stand for extended periods, typically 4-6 hours.
- Provide direct client care activities as required, following established policies.
- Utilize concentrated attention and maintain visual accuracy to adapt focus.
Position Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current Illinois nursing license; BSN preferred or equivalent experience.
- BLS certification required.
- Demonstrate clinical competence and a commitment to personal and professional growth.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Operate standard office equipment (e.g., copier, fax machine, personal computer, printer).
- Proficient with specific computer software, including MS Office applications and Meditech.
Physical Demands
- Ability to grasp, reach, bend, stoop, and walk regularly.
- Lift up to 25 pounds when assisting clients or performing necessary tasks.
- Utilize good body mechanics to prevent injury.
Functional Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide appropriate nursing care through planning, organizing, and directing nursing functions for clients.
- Assign duties to nursing staff appropriate to their skill levels.
- Identify problems and utilize critical thinking to develop effective solutions.
- Create a positive work environment that promotes growth and job satisfaction of personnel.
- Implement physician orders accurately and promptly.
- Prepare, administer, and record medications following organizational policies.
- Document client information accurately and comprehensively.
- Adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
- Provide emergency care when necessary and coordinate with the healthcare team.
- Participate in training and evaluate personnel performance.
- Comply with organizational policies and assist in their review and revision.
- Utilize appropriate channels of communication effectively.
- Adjust interventions based on age-specific guidelines.
- Prioritize and manage safe client care efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas.
- Protect clients’ rights regarding confidentiality, privacy, safety, and security.
- Adapt quickly to changing work assignments and accept responsibilities accordingly.
- Conduct group therapies as assigned and collaborate in multidisciplinary treatment planning.
- Engage in promoting process improvement activities.
- Support and uphold the organization’s philosophy, maintaining a collaborative relationship with all team members.
