Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our team in a long-term care setting. The OTA will be responsible for implementing specialized therapy plans, training patients, and providing education and support to enhance patients’ quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

• Treatment Implementation: Execute therapy plans designed by the Occupational Therapist (OT) by guiding patients through therapeutic exercises and activities aimed at improving motor skills and coordination.
• ADL Training: Teach patients to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, and eating, utilizing adaptive techniques as needed.
• Adaptive Equipment: Instruct patients and their families on the proper use of adaptive tools, including reachers, mobility aids, and modified kitchen utensils.
• Monitoring and Documentation: Keep detailed records of patient progress, behavioral changes, and safety concerns, reporting these to the supervising OT to make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
• Education and Support: Provide emotional encouragement to patients and train caregivers on effective assistance with home programs.
• Operational Tasks: Prepare treatment areas, clean equipment, and perform administrative duties as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in a long-term care setting.
• Valid Texas or compact license.
• Experience in DOR is preferred.
