Acute Travel RN: Observation Unit

Job Overview

The Observation Unit is seeking dedicated and experienced Registered Nurses to join our team. This role involves providing high-quality patient care for individuals under observation status, ensuring effective monitoring and timely intervention for various patient conditions.

Position Details

• Unit Type: Observation Unit
• Trauma Level: 2
• Number of Openings: 10
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (5 days or 5 nights)
• Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 72 hours per pay period (0.9 FTE)
• Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Must work weekends and holidays

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients in the observation unit with various acute conditions.
• Work collaboratively with the medical team to create and implement patient care plans.
• Utilize cardiac monitors and other medical equipment as necessary.
• Assist in the education of patients regarding their conditions and treatment plans.
• Float to Medical/Cardiac/Neuro-Ortho Units as needed.

Qualifications

• Required Education: RN license with required certifications (BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale Competency, Tele/ECG Competency)
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of medical/surgical experience; telemetry experience is preferred.
• Common Patient Conditions: Chest pain, asthma exacerbations, TIA, abdominal pain, urinary issues, blood sugar management, DVT/PE, cellulitis, post-procedural monitoring, and minor trauma.

• Patient Population: Adults only (18 years and older)
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5, with no defined maximum ratios.
• Electronic Health Record: Cerner
• Dress Code: Galaxy blue scrubs

Attendance Policy

Attendance is critical in this role. A formal warning will be issued after the second absence, and termination of the contract may occur after the third absence unless prior arrangements are made with the unit leader.
