Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) for a dynamic unit. The position involves providing exceptional patient care while working in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to teamwork, a positive attitude, and a focus on patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in a stepdown unit.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, including reading and interpreting telemetry strips.
• Titrate medications and IV drips, including Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Nitro.
• Collaborate with a charge nurse and assist with patient assignments.
• Work closely with respiratory therapy equipment, troubleshooting when necessary.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to unit goals and improvements.
• Provide education and support to patients and families as needed.
• Maintain compliance with departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.

Work Environment

This position is located in a stepdown unit with 22 beds and a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4. Nurse aides and patient care techs are available on the unit with a ratio of 1:10. Successful candidates must be prepared for a high-volume of admissions and discharges.

Scheduling & Requirements

• Shift Length: 12 hours.
• Shift Type: Nights (0630-1900 or 1830-0700).
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
• Holiday Requirements: One major and one minor holiday per year.
• Floating Requirements: Ability to float to ICU if appropriate experience is held.
• Orientation: One shift of unit-specific orientation.

Artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas. Candidates are required to provide a valid driver’s license for eligibility. All requests for time off must be submitted at the outset, as additional requests will not be accommodated.
