Certified Surgical Technologist – OR

Shift Information: 10-12 hour shifts depending on needs

Minimum Years of Experience: 2.0

Certifications/Requirements: General Certifications (BLS/BCLS)

Position Summary:

The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role as a scrub person in the operating room. This position works under the supervision of the surgeon and the registered nurse (R.N.) to maintain a safe operating room environment, ensure the proper functioning of equipment, and facilitate operative procedures with maximum patient safety. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in surgical techniques, human anatomy, and the implementation of tools and technologies necessary for the safe care of patients during both therapeutic and diagnostic invasive procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or an equivalent military surgical technologist program
• American Heart Association BLS certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist

Essential Job Functions:

• Ensure the completion of case carts according to preference cards and accurately interpret these cards for procuring necessary instruments and supplies.
• Communicate effectively with operating room staff and sterile processing team to coordinate instrumentation for both scheduled and unscheduled cases.
• Review the daily surgical schedule with the charge nurse and the coordinator of sterile processing to identify potential turnover delays and scheduling issues.
• Assume responsibility for the core phone and communication duties associated with the position, delegating tasks as appropriate, and coordinating breaks and lunches with relevant personnel.
• Act as a resource for both the surgical services and sterile processing departments to procure necessary supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures.
• Engage in communication and coordination with materials management regarding supply utilization and deployment.
