Certified Surgical Technologist – OR

Shift Information: 10-12 hour shifts depending on needs

Minimum Years of Experience: 2.0

Certifications/Requirements: General Certifications (BLS/BCLS)

Position Summary:

The Surgical Technologist serves as the scrub person within the operating room, working under the supervision of the surgeon and registered nurse (RN). The role ensures that the operating room environment is safe, that all equipment functions correctly, and that surgical procedures are conducted under optimal conditions to maximize patient safety. Candidates must possess expertise in surgical techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the use of tools and technologies for safe patient care during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or an equivalent military surgical technologist program
• American Heart Association BLS Certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist

Essential Job Functions:

• Ensure that case carts are completed according to preference cards; recognize and interpret preference cards for procuring instruments and supplies.
• Communicate effectively with operating room and sterile processing staff to coordinate instrumentation for scheduled and unscheduled cases.
• Review the daily schedule with the charge nurse and the day coordinator of sterile processing, identifying potential turnover delays and scheduling issues.
• Assume responsibility for communication within the position, delegating duties effectively and coordinating breaks and lunches with appropriate staff.
• Serve as a resource for the departments of Sterile Processing and Surgical Services for procuring necessary items for surgical procedures.
• Coordinate with materials management regarding supply utilization and deployment.
