Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical/Surgical/Telemetry

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical/Surgical/Telemetry unit. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality nursing care to patients with a variety of conditions, demonstrating expertise in telemetry and acute care nursing.

Job Details

• Unit: Medical/Surgical/Telemetry
• Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years

Required Certifications

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• BLS Certification

Unit Information

The telemetry unit accommodates 49 beds with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:5. Common diagnoses include congestive heart failure (CHF), COVID-19, respiratory issues, gastrointestinal conditions, diabetes, post-catheterization care, and total joint replacements.

Essential Responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Monitor patients’ vital signs and interpret telemetry data.
• Provide medication and treatment in accordance with established protocols.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes.
• Educate patients and families on health management and discharge planning.
• Participate in unit activities, including self-scheduling and team meetings.

Qualifications

• Strong ability to interpret basic telemetry strips.
• Experience with cardiovascular events such as CVA and TIA preferred.
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic medical records is recommended.
• Must complete a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% prior to contract signing.

Work Environment

This position may require floating to other units based on staffing needs. The unit practices a self-scheduling model with a commitment to working two weekends in a four-week schedule and attending to holiday coverage as needed.
