Job Description

The Registered Nurse I (RN I) is a dedicated, licensed professional committed to delivering safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centered care. Utilizing the full nursing process, this role encompasses assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
• Deliver direct patient care across varying age groups, promoting optimal health outcomes.
• Provide clear, culturally sensitive education to patients and families, enhancing health literacy and facilitating successful transitions of care.
• Supervise licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and other ancillary personnel.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record system.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, therapists, and the multidisciplinary care team.
• Engage in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs, contributing to ongoing professional development.
• Float to other departments as required, ensuring appropriate orientation and training.
• Perform additional duties as necessary to support patient needs and operational efficiency.

General Qualifications

• Current RN license in New Mexico or an active Multi-State Compact (eNLC) license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association (or equivalent).
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Relevant education and clinical experience to support essential nursing knowledge and skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to provide compassionate, culturally competent care to patients of all ages.
• Strong team player with adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Physical, Environmental & Psychological Considerations

• Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, and biohazardous materials.
• Work is primarily conducted in a temperature-controlled hospital setting, with occasional exposure to various sounds, odors, and emotionally challenging situations.
• Physical capability to lift, position, and transfer patients using proper techniques and equipment.
• Ability to perform effectively under stress, respond calmly to emergencies, and utilize strong problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrate teamwork, adaptability, and resilience in dynamic clinical situations.

Department-Specific Qualifications for Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP)

• Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certifications are required.
• OPS Emergency Workshop and STABLE certification are to be obtained within 12 months of employment.
• SAFER NM Technician certification is preferred.
• Proficiency in all aspects of perinatal care, labor support, delivery, and newborn assessment.
• Knowledge of sterile techniques and maintenance of sterile fields is essential.
