Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Summary

This position is responsible for functioning as both a caregiver and care manager. In the caregiver role, the RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame, implementing the Nursing Process. In the care manager role, the RN directs and oversees the work of other caregivers (both nurses and non-nurses) through delegation, coordination, supervision, and validation/evaluation of patient care outcomes. The individual must fully understand the purpose and operation of Patient Care Services and possess the ability to make sound decisions under variable circumstances.

Essential Functions

• Conduct assessments and data collection focusing on patients’ physiological, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
• Implement care consistently and knowledgeably by adhering to procedures and care plans.
• Identify and address patient learning needs and readiness for learning.
• Document patient information accurately, adhering to electronic medical records and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrate awareness of patient rights, ensuring equitable care for all individuals.
• Delegate patient care activities appropriately and supervise assigned coworkers effectively.
• Utilize critical thinking for effective organization and prioritization of tasks.
• May function as a Charge Nurse, overseeing patient assignments and coordinating staff coverage.

Work Environment

This position collaborates closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes.

Education and Experience

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current RN Licensure in Washington State.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Preferred experience in acute care nursing; one year of RN experience preferred for specialty departments.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, bending, and pushing/pulling.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
• Physical strength to perform CPR and assist with patient movement as needed.
• Keen mental faculties for assessment and decision-making in acute patient management.
• Good visual acuity for accurate patient assessment and documentation.
• Emotional stability to manage high stress levels in patient care situations.
• Effective communication skills for interaction with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Additional Requirements for Specific Units

• ACLS certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• PALS or PEARS certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• CPAN certification preferred for applicable roles.
• Continuing education and training in alignment with unit-specific requirements.
