Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical/Surgical & Telemetry

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry care. The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care in various medical conditions, including dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, anemia, and hip fractures.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care for patients in a medical/surgical telemetry setting.
• Utilize rapid response protocols and interpret dysrhythmias to manage patient health effectively.
• Administer IV insulin as per protocols and manage colostomy and feeding tube care.
• Monitor and support patients pre and post hemodialysis procedures.
• Execute blood product administration and perform phlebotomy and central line blood draws.
• Provide care for patients with PICC lines and start IVs as needed.
• Manage airway support through various devices, including CPAP/BiPAP and high flow nasal cannula.
• Ensure adherence to isolation precautions and conduct wound care including the use of wound vacs.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members using SBAR communication standards.
• Participate in emergency care in the event of catastrophic events or disasters.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a relevant setting.
• Ability to accept first-time travelers and local candidates.
• Proficient in telemetry remote monitoring and management of dysrhythmias.
• Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
• Ability to float between units as required and willingness to work weekends (12-16 per contract).
• Successful completion of EKG testing prior to start.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system.
• Knowledge of insulin management, stroke management, surgical drain care, and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).
• Skills in managing tracheostomies.

Work Environment

Staff will be expected to work night shifts (36 or 48 hours per week) and be available for a 24-hour orientation. A flexible scheduling type will be implemented based on unit needs. Contract staff may also be assigned to respond to storm or hurricane teams and should be prepared for potential consolidation to a centralized office during the contract period.
