Assistant Director of Nursing – LTC/SNF

Job Description

The Assistant Director of Nursing assists in the planning, organizing, developing, and directing of the daily functions of the Nursing Department in accordance with relevant standards and regulations. This role is vital in ensuring the highest quality of care is provided at all times. The Assistant Director may assume the duties of the Director of Nursing in their absence.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Current registered nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of two years in a management or leadership position with long-term care experience preferred.
• Experience in acute or rehabilitation care is preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

I. Clinical Component

• Nursing Process
  • Develops, interprets, implements, and evaluates care standards, policies, and procedures for all patient/resident populations.
  • Ensures patient/resident rights and advocates for care that respects individual values and beliefs.
  • Guides staff in recognizing and addressing potential care problems.
  • Acts as a role model in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensures ongoing competencies of nursing staff.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members to provide safe care.
• Quality Improvement
  • Advocates for safe delivery of patient care.
  • Participates in required committee meetings and in-services.
  • Maintains professional licensing and certifications.
  • Implements quality improvement activities and corrective actions as needed.
  • Monitors quality of care through chart reviews and data collection.

II. Educational Component

• Education
  • Participates in the development of patient/resident education plans.
  • Assists in staff orientation and identifies educational needs to enhance nursing practice.
  • Facilitates opportunities for nursing students and collaborates with educational institutions.
• Professional Growth
  • Takes responsibility for ongoing education and shares knowledge with the team.
  • Maintains awareness of current nursing issues and practices.
  • Cultivates professional networking relationships to enhance continuity of care.

III. Management Component

• Responsibilities to the Nursing Department
  • Evaluates clinical competency of nursing personnel and enhances quality of care.
  • Directs staff during emergency situations and assesses support services.
  • Ensures compliance with nursing policies and addresses incidents appropriately.
  • Completes employee performance evaluations and assists with facility programs.

Specific Requirements

• Active, unencumbered registered nurse license in the state of practice.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English; read, write, and comprehend.
• Capable of making independent decisions and managing difficult situations tactfully.
• Knowledgeable in nursing practices, procedures, and regulatory guidelines relevant to long-term care.
• Demonstrates leadership, organizational skills, and a collaborative approach with all staff.
• Positivity and enthusiasm in providing care to patients/residents.

Shift Information

Shift is primarily Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with variable days and weekends required based on staffing and patient needs. On-call rotation as needed.

Experience Required

A minimum of three years of experience is required for this position.
