Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department, providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. The role entails managing a diverse range of medical emergencies and requires a strong focus on trauma care, telemental health, and onsite assessments.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive emergency care for patients, including trauma, medical alerts, and critical conditions.
• Conduct mental health assessments and referrals, utilizing telehealth services as needed.
• Perform Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) exams and domestic violence evaluations.
• Work collaboratively with a team that includes social workers, financial counselors, and pharmacists.
• Utilize specialized equipment for patient monitoring and intervention.
• Administer moderate sedation and nitrous oxide as necessary for patient comfort and care.
• Maintain compliance with all required certifications and protocols for emergency care.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an emergency department or similar setting.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BCLS, and PALS or ENPC.
• Preferred certification: NIH Stroke Scale.
• Proficient in telemetry and the use of nitrous oxide.

Schedule

This position involves night shifts (3×12-hour shifts) and requires availability every other weekend. Flexible scheduling may be necessary to meet departmental needs.

Special Procedures/Unit Details

• Handling a variety of cases including Level 1 Myocardial Infarctions (MI), trauma codes, cardiac arrest, overdose, respiratory distress, Code Stroke, and Code Sepsis.
• Conducting assessments and exams for sexual assault and domestic violence by trained nurses.

• Nicom for noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring
• Ranger Rapid Infuser/Fluid Warmer
• Venue 40 to assist with IV starts
• Bladder Scanner, Life Pak Defib, Lucas, Dash 5000 cardiac monitors, Airpal

Team Support

This role will be supported by teleinterpreters, social workers, financial counselors, and a pharmacist available part of the time to enhance patient care and resource management.

Pediatric Care

Approximately 18% of patients seen in this unit are pediatric cases, requiring specialized attention and care strategies.
