Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology Progressive Care Unit
Unit Information
This position is within a high-acuity Medical Oncology unit that includes progressive care beds and pediatric patients, focusing primarily on solid tumors, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology.
Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse will be responsible for:
- Caring for patients with high acuity needs in a Telemetry unit, with a primary focus on Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care.
- Implementing infection prevention protocols and fall prevention strategies.
- Utilizing telemetry monitoring systems and specialized medical equipment.
- Providing care for pediatric patients when required, although these cases are rare.

Special Procedures and Equipment
- 36 bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 PCU beds
- Utilization of GE telemetry system and specific medical devices, including bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, and PCA pumps.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of acute care nursing experience, including 1 year specifically in a PCU setting.
- Current certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
- Ability to manage ratios of 1:4-5 for Med/Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU care.
- Willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed.
- Previous travel nursing experience is preferred.
Required Skills
- Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and respond effectively using rapid response teams.
- Proficiency in caring for and managing feeding tubes and conducting blood product administration.
- Experience with central line care and PICC line management.
- Starting IVs, managing cardiac drips (excluding titration), and PCA management.
- Care for chest tubes, external CPAP/BIPAP, and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) and tracheostomy management.
Preferred Skills
- Management of dysrhythmias and administration of IV insulin protocols.
- Titration of insulin drips and experience with chemotherapy administration and monitoring.
- Familiarity with wound care and non-invasive airway management techniques.
