Physical Therapy Assistant

Job Summary

As a Physical Therapy Assistant, you will provide essential physical therapy treatments under the guidance of licensed physical therapists. This includes various modalities, manual techniques, and exercise strategies. You will instruct and guide patients through functional activities such as bed mobility, transfers, gait, and balance activities while working with minimal supervision.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

• High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
• Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
• Two years of technical experience: Preferred
• Experience in therapy in an acute care environment, acute therapy unit, and/or outpatient setting: Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Physical Therapy Assistant licensure in all applicable states of practice: Required
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor: Required
• Valid Driver’s License and must be at least 21 years of age or older: Required

Essential Functions

• Administer physical therapy treatments, utilizing modalities, manual techniques, and common exercise techniques.
• Instruct and guide patients through functional activities, including bed mobility, transfers, and gait/balance activities.
• Observe and adhere to treatment precautions as specified by physical therapists, nurses, or physicians.
• Monitor changes in patient responses and report findings to the supervising nurses and physical therapists.
• Provide daily and timely documentation of patient interventions and services in the acute care setting.
• Document treatments for employees and outpatients as needed.
• Educate and train patients and caregivers, considering their preferred learning styles.
• Assess responses to education and training.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
