Surgical Technologist, Operating Room

We are seeking a dedicated Surgical Technologist to join our operating room team. This role plays a vital part in surgical procedures by providing support to surgeons and the surgical team, ensuring a smooth workflow and the highest standards of patient safety.

Shift Information

6:30 AM – 5:00 PM, with on-call requirements.

Qualifications

• CST certification or eligibility within twelve months of graduation from an approved program.
• AHA CPR certified.
• Demonstrates mature professional behaviors, such as tact, empathy, and diplomacy.
• Promotes a positive working environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently.
• Ability to reach, handle, and feel with hands, and occasionally stoop and kneel.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate knowledge of and assist with surgical procedures by meeting the anticipated needs of the surgeon and other team members.
• Set up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of surgery being performed.
• Select and prepare necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments while ensuring surgical procedure cards are current.
• Consistently apply principles of aseptic practice to all surgical procedures to prevent infection.
• Utilize correct techniques for disinfection, sterilization, and environmental control.
• Open sterile supplies aseptically, verifying exposure to a sterilization process and checking the integrity of the sterile package.
• Assist in skin preparation and draping of the patient and operative area as requested by the surgeon.
• Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse while reporting discrepancies as per Operating Room policy.
• Dispose of sharps from the sterile field following Operating Room policy and procedures.
• Prepare all specimens and cultures appropriately for laboratory analysis.
• Assist the surgical team in the care and maintenance of the surgical suite to ensure cleanliness and efficient room turnover.
