Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care, including triage, treatment, and discharge for patients in the Emergency Department, serving a diverse patient population from newborns to geriatrics.

Essential Functions

• Conducts thorough triage assessments for all patients, promptly notifying the Emergency Physician of any abnormal signs, symptoms, or vital signs.
• Reviews and completes patient orders efficiently and accurately.
• Educates patients on medication side effects during their time in the Emergency Department and ensures this information is included in discharge instructions.
• Recognizes symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other critical emergencies consistently.
• Provides appropriate nursing interventions in both stable and emergent patient situations.
• Demonstrates competency in essential nursing skills including:
  • Medication administration
  • Intravenous therapy including blood product management
  • Care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains
  • Safe operation of medical equipment in critical care
• Follows established protocols and chain of command per policy.
• Accurately interprets ECG rhythms and manages patient care during life-threatening emergencies.
• Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application, making recommendations based on patient presentation.
• Exhibits appropriate knowledge and skill in responding to Code Blue, Code Stroke, Sepsis, and Trauma Activations.
• Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of patient care.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience

• Associate Degree in Nursing (A.S.) or equivalent: Required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing: Preferred
• Minimum of one year of acute care experience: Required

Licenses/Certifications

• Current RN license in the state of practice: Required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor: Required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor: Required
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from an approved vendor: Required
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required within six months of hire or transfer

Shift Details

This position typically requires working night shifts with flexibility in scheduling, including options for three 12-hour shifts or four 12-hour shifts.
