Registered Nurse (RN)

Department Overview

This position is for a Registered Nurse with experience in Emergency Room (ER), Medsurg, and Swing Bed settings. Candidates must have at least 1 year of ER experience, including charge experience.

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Department Details

• Trauma Level: Critical Access
• Emergency Room Beds: 2
• Medsurg Beds: 10
• Nurse-Patient Ratios:
  • ER: 1:3-4
  • Medsurg Days: 1:5
  • Medsurg Nights: 1:6
• Common Diagnoses:
  • ER: Traumas, Strokes, STEMIs, Chest pains, Respiratory conditions, Lacerations
  • Medsurg: Pediatric to geriatric patients, Pneumonia, UTIs, Observation patients, Short-term swing bed patients
• Common Drips: Heparin and Levophed

Role Expectations

• Each shift has a Charge Nurse who may also take an assignment.
• Emergency Room ratios do not include nursing aides or emergency medical technicians; however, Medsurg has 1 nursing aide for every 8 patients.
• RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips without the assistance of dedicated Tele/Monitor Techs.

Scheduling Requirements

• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: Every third holiday
• Floating Requirements: Nurses may float between ER, Medsurg, and Swing Bed units.

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo a unit-specific orientation consisting of 1 twelve-hour shift.
