Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Job Description

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing testing in assigned areas of the laboratory. This role involves the accurate examination and analysis of various tests to obtain critical data used in diagnosing and treating diseases.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform chemical, microscopic, microbiological, blood bank, hematological, and serological tests.
• Ensure accurate and timely test results in all areas of the laboratory.
• Monitor quality control procedures and calibrations of instrumentation.
• Conduct routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
• Accurately document all testing procedures, especially in blood transfusion services.
• Participate in departmental and hospital-wide committees and initiatives.
• Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of supervisory personnel.
• Provide training and support to laboratory staff as needed.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory and licensing standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related field.
• Current license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
• ASCP or AMT certification preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is required, including some generalist experience.
• Proficient in laboratory information systems and basic computer skills.

Physical Demands

The role requires frequent standing, walking, and the ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds. There may be exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases, necessitating adherence to safety standards.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in a laboratory environment with exposure to various healthcare and administrative conditions, including regular contact with patients and guests. The individual should be prepared for a variety of situations and manage pressures stemming from multiple responsibilities.
