Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our medical-surgical unit. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience and must be willing to work holidays and potentially care for COVID-19 patients. This role involves assignment to an Inclement Weather Team and may require work during adverse weather conditions, mass casualty events, or disasters.
Job Details
- Target Ratios: 1:6
- Shift: 12-Hour Nights (18:45 – 07:15)
- Acceptable Hours: 36 to 48 hours per week
- Contract Duration: 13 to 26 weeks
- RTO: 7 days maximum for auto offers (prior to start)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Call Requirement: Call required if assigned to a prescheduled shift
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years, first-time travelers accepted
- Certifications: BCLS required; CPI and charge nurse experience preferred
- Skills: EPIC experience required; must possess basic nursing skills suitable for a medical-surgical environment
Patient Care
The Registered Nurse will care for adult and geriatric patients with general medical/surgical conditions. The typical daily census in the unit is approximately 43 patients.
Unit Procedures and Responsibilities
- Utilization of Heparin Drips
- Wound Vacuum Dressing Changes
- Administration of High Flow Oxygen
- Short-term BiPap assistance with respiratory support (no additional training required)
Documentation and Communication
The unit employs PYXIS for medication management and utilizes EPIC for documentation. Effective communication practices like SBAR are essential.
Team Participation
All staff members are required to attend monthly unit team meetings, scheduled for the 4th Wednesday of each month from January through October, and on the 3rd Wednesday in November and December. Additional meetings for night staff will occur the Friday following the Wednesday meetings.
Scrubs
Scrubs are not provided; navy scrubs are required.
Additional Notes
Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty role. All staff are expected to adapt to various units as needed.
