Surgical Technologist

Position Summary: The Surgical Technologist operates in the role of a scrub person, working under the supervision of the surgeon and Registered Nurse (R.N.). This role ensures that the operating room (O.R.) environment remains safe, that the equipment is functioning properly, and that the operative procedures are conducted in a manner that maximizes patient safety. The Surgical Technologist must possess expertise in surgical techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the implementation of tools and technologies that facilitate safe care during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist program
• American Heart Association BLS certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist

Essential Job Functions:

• Ensure completion of case carts according to preference cards, recognizing and interpreting these cards for the procurement of instruments and supplies.
• Communicate effectively with operating room staff and sterile processing team members to coordinate instrumentation for both scheduled and unscheduled cases.
• Review the daily schedule with the charge nurse and day coordinator of sterile processing to identify possible turnover delays and scheduling issues.
• Take responsibility for core communication tasks and delegate duties accordingly, coordinating breaks and lunches with relevant individuals.
• Serve as a resource for the surgical services and sterile processing departments in procuring necessary items for surgical procedures.
• Communicate and coordinate with materials management regarding supply utilization and deployment.
