Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN)

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position. This role involves providing high-quality care to a diverse patient population in a stepdown unit from ICU.

Assignment Details

• Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
• Start Date: ASAP
• Shift: 3×12 Night Shift (19:00 – 07:30)
• Years of Experience Required: 1 Year
• First Timers Accepted: Yes
• Guaranteed Hours: 60 Hours per 2 weeks
• Weekend Coverage: Weekend coverage may be more frequent than every other weekend, depending on staffing needs.

Unit Information

The Progressive Care Unit operates on a co-care and virtual nursing model. Each patient is supported by one bedside RN, a virtual RN, and one CNA, allowing for enhanced patient care and safety:

• Bedside RN Ratio: 1:4
• CNA Patient Ratio: 1:6

The PCU accommodates a variety of patient cases, including:

• Cardiac patients (e.g., CHF, anterior myocardial infarction, post-transcatheter aortic valve replacement)
• Respiratory patients (e.g., COVID-19, influenza, COPD exacerbations)
• Neuro and renal patients
• Patients requiring higher-level monitoring (e.g., alcohol withdrawal, gastrointestinal bleeding)

Qualifications

• Licensure: Current RN licensure in Alaska is mandatory upon signing.
• Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Floating: RN may float within their scope to meet facility needs, including lower acuity units.
