Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team. This role requires proficiency in managing obstetric emergencies and providing high-quality care to mothers and newborns, particularly in high-risk situations.

Shift and Schedule

• Start Date: ASAP
• Orientation: Every Monday
• Night Shift: 6 PM to 6 AM
• Day Shift: 6 AM to 6 PM
• Weekend Requirement: Minimum of 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Floating Requirement: May float to Emergency Department or Medical-Surgical Unit if experienced

Unit Information

• 7 Labor & Delivery beds
• 2 Triage beds
• 10 Postpartum beds
• 1-3 births per day, totaling approximately 830 births per year
• Patient to Nurse Ratios: Typically 1:2

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of labor and delivery nursing experience required
• Experience with C-sections is mandatory
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• Proficiency in fetal monitoring and the management of fetal distress is essential
• Ability to care for patients with pre-eclampsia
• Experience in a clinical background with high-risk patients
• Support staff includes OB scrub tech, Health Unit Coordinator, Patient Care Technicians, and a 24/7 Respiratory Therapist
• Ability to provide couplet care as needed

Role Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care to laboring patients, including monitoring and assessment of both mother and newborn
• Respond to and manage obstetric emergencies effectively until a provider arrives
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest level of patient care
• Assist in postpartum care, education, and support for new mothers
• Participate in unit meetings and contribute to the improvement of clinical protocols

Additional Information

Extensions may be possible with advance notice and approval. Opportunities for floating to other units may arise based on unit needs.
