Medical Surgical Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Job Summary

The Medical Surgical Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing delegated aspects of direct patient care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The LPN is accountable for making informed decisions based on education and experience, adhering to State Board of Nursing Rules and departmental policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care in alignment with established policies and procedures.
• Assist in physical examination and data collection.
• Support patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and provide education.
• Administer medications and perform peripheral IV therapy.
• Engage in discharge planning and implement physician’s orders.
• Document patient care activities accurately and comprehensively.
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills in planning and delivering patient care.
• Maintain clinical competencies through ongoing education and training.
• Delegate patient care tasks appropriately based on the team’s skill set and experience.
• Provide guidance and supervision to assistive personnel involved in patient care.

Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• IV Certification.
• Experience with Cerner or similar electronic medical records systems.
• Must possess a permanent address more than 50 miles from the facility.
• Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in a medical-surgical setting is preferred.
