Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Shift: Monday-Thursday 0800 – 1930; 10 hour days

Requirements: Must have an active Phlebotomist License and active Washington State MA-P License.

General Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs a variety of technical, clerical, and information systems related procedures in multiple laboratory areas, including Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Blood Bank. The MLT is responsible for operating laboratory equipment to provide timely and accurate test results essential for high-quality patient care. This role involves monitoring quality control procedures and participating in the Laboratory Quality Improvement program.

Essential Job Duties:

• Analyze laboratory findings to ensure the accuracy of results.
• Enter data from medical tests and clinical results into the computer for storage.
• Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Prepare and analyze slides and specimens of human blood, tissue, or other cells.
• Calibrate and maintain equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
• Establish and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure accurate laboratory results.
• Collect and study blood samples to determine cell counts, morphology, blood group, and compatibility for transfusions.
• Conduct chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood and urine, to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components.
• Identify abnormalities in samples, such as malignancies or infections.
• Provide technical information regarding test results to physicians, patients, and researchers.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Data Analysis: (30%) Analyze and interpret laboratory results across multiple areas of the laboratory.
• Maintenance: (20%) Maintain instruments and designated lab sections, including scheduled maintenance and monitoring of consumables.
• Specimen Collection: (20%) Perform specimen collection on patients of all age groups, including venipuncture and capillary draws, and instruct nursing staff on proper collection methods.
