Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical

Job Overview

We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical Surgical unit. This position offers an opportunity to provide high-quality patient care in a dynamic environment, focusing on medical-surgical patients with a variety of conditions.

Shift Details

The position offers a 12-hour shift schedule with a guaranteed 36 hours per week. The shifts include every other weekend and holidays as needed.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Medical Surgical
• Number of Beds: 30
• Nurse to Patient Ratios:
  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-6
• Common Diagnoses: Total joint replacement, spinal surgery, urology procedures, abdominal surgeries, bariatrics, medical overflow.
• Common Procedures: Management of hemo hemovacs and JP drains, colostomies.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will engage in the following responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care, including assessments and interventions.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Educate patients and families regarding health conditions and post-operative care.
• Perform bedside shift reports to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a surgical setting.
• Current BLS certification.
• Familiarity with post-operative care and early ambulation protocols is preferred.
• Ability to float to medical and telemetry units as needed.

Support Staff

The unit is supported by patient care technicians at a ratio of 1:12 and has remote monitoring capabilities.

Additional Information

This unit fosters a close-knit and positive culture, with an emphasis on teamwork and quality patient care. A charge nurse is present on both shifts to support staff and manage patient flows.
