LPN – Medical Surgical

Scheduling Details

• Shift Hours: 1900p-0700a or ALT 0700a-1900p
• Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed

Charting Requirements

• Experience with EPIC charting is required.
• Requests for time off or special scheduling must be submitted at the time of application.
• The facility may cancel up to three shifts during a 13-week contract period without incurring charges for the canceled hours.

Licenses and Certifications

• Active License: Must hold an active New York Single State LPN license (note: NY is not Compact).
• Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.

Clinical Skills Requirements

• Must take own patient assignments with RN support.
• Required skills include:
• Vital signs monitoring, pain assessment, and intake/output monitoring
• Patient isolation protocols and physical restraints
• Specimen labeling and oxygen administration via nasal cannula
• Management of feeding tubes and telemetry monitoring
• Administering oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube medications, and IV therapy with pumps
• Blood glucose monitoring
• Basic wound care, including simple dressings and management of JP/Hemovac drains
• Providing basic care, including bathing and mouth care
• Foley catheter insertion (male/female) and clean catch urine collection
• Communicating patient status changes to RN/MD

Unit Details

• Patient Ratios: Days: 1:5-6
• Care for medical patients, including those with COPD exacerbations, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues.
• Floating to other units may be required based on skill set.
• Scrub Color: Any combination of navy blue and white.
