LPN – Medical Surgical

Scheduling Details

• Shift Hours: 1900 – 0700 or 0700 – 1900
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed

Charting

Experience with EPIC is required for this position.

Call Off Policy

The client may cancel (call off) up to three shifts during a 13-week contract period without incurring charges for the canceled hours.

License and Certifications

• License: An active New York Single State LPN license is mandatory (New York is not a Compact state).
• Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS)

Clinical Skills Required

Candidates must possess the following skills:

• Ability to take own patient assignment with RN support
• Acute care experience within the last 2 years
• Vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring
• Isolation precautions and physical restraints
• Specimen labeling and oxygen administration via nasal cannula
• Feeding tube management and telemetry monitoring
• 12-lead EKG competency
• Medication administration (oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops)
• IV therapy with pumps and blood glucose monitoring
• Basic wound care (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains)
• Bathing and mouth care
• Foley catheter insertion (male and female) and clean catch urine collection
• Communication of status changes to RN/MD
• Experience in medical-surgical/telemetry care settings

Unit and Floating Information

The unit focuses on medical patients, including those with COPD exacerbations, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues. Floating to other units may be required within the candidate’s skill set.

Ratios: Day Shift: 1:5-6

Scrub Color

Any combination of navy blue and white is acceptable.
