Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to join our acute care unit. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing high-quality patient care in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the medical-surgical unit.
• Monitor patient conditions and assess needs to provide the best possible care.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Document patient care activities in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
• Participate in patient and family education to promote understanding of patient conditions and treatment plans.
• Assist with care coordination and discharge planning.

Shift Information

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Shift Type: Day shift (7a – 7p)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: As needed

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Medical Surgical with 44 beds and a staff of 40.
• Patient Ratios: 1:5, possibly 1:6.
• Nurse Aide Support: Yes, with CNAs at a ratio of 1:8 to 1:10.
• Orientation: 1 week general orientation, followed by 2 days of unit-specific orientation.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required, with at least 1 travel assignment.
• Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) are mandatory.
• Experience with Meditech EMR is preferred but not required.

This position involves floating to all acute care and cardiovascular units as needed to assist with patient care. Housing options in the area are available and have been reviewed for quality and safety.
