Maternal-Fetal Medicine Sonographer

Job Summary

In the role of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Sonographer, you will be responsible for conducting diagnostic imaging studies across all trimesters. This includes first trimester dating and early anatomical assessments, second and third trimester detailed anatomical assessments, fetal echocardiography, growth assessments, Doppler studies, and transvaginal ultrasound. You will work exclusively with perinatologists in a high-quality independent fetal imaging center, which will enable you to provide exceptional ultrasound services while enhancing and maintaining your ultrasound skills. Opportunities for additional certifications are available if needed. Protocols are in accordance with standards established by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).

Responsibilities

• Check equipment and accessories to ensure proper working order; notify appropriate personnel for repairs.
• Perform duties in the best interest of patients, personnel, and the facility.
• Participate in the modality-specific QA/QC program and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Evaluate patient histories and symptoms for the procedures’ clinical criteria, communicating clearly and professionally with patients and their families as appropriate.
• Assist physicians as needed in performing additional imaging or biopsy procedures.
• Model proficiency in MFM Ultrasound Technician III competencies while utilizing technical skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner.
• Complete exam charges and image documentation, ensuring timely forwarding to radiologists.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential Credentials

• BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS)
• REGISTERED DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHER (RDMS)

Education and Experience

• Associate’s Degree in Ultrasound Technology or graduation from an accredited sonography program required.
• Current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) registration.
• BLS accreditation by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Proficiency in MFM Ultrasound Technician III required competencies.
• Preferred: Two years of experience in ultrasound.
• Preferred: Nuchal Translucency (NT) Certification.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.

MFM Ultrasound Technician III Required Competencies

• Medical terminology, basic anatomy, and physiology.
• Diagnostic imaging studies across all trimesters, including early anatomic assessments and detailed studies.
• Advanced fetal imaging studies, including genetic sonograms and Doppler studies for various clinical indications.
• Conduct ultrasounds related to invasive diagnostic testing.
• Follow protocols established by accredited obstetric imaging organizations, including AIUM.

Schedule

8-hour shifts Monday through Thursday, with a 4-hour shift on Friday. Guaranteed 40 hours per week.
