Registered Nurse (RN) – MS/Tele Float

This position is for an ED Holding Support role located within a Float Pool. The ED Holding unit accommodates patients in the Emergency Department who are awaiting inpatient beds. The patient population includes adults with various medical and surgical diagnoses. Travelers may encounter patients at the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level and are expected to manage Medical/Surgical and Telemetry cases, as well as float between the Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical areas as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor and manage patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions.
• Float to various departments as required, including the Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical areas.
• Utilize telemetry to monitor heart rhythms and manage dysrhythmias effectively.
• Provide care for patients requiring colostomy and feeding tube management.
• Administer blood products and manage peripheral lines, including phlebotomy and PICC line management.
• Implement isolation precautions and standard safety protocols.
• Perform advanced airway management, including the use of CPAP/BiPAP and high-flow nasal cannula.
• Conduct assessment and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience is required.
• Traveler experience is preferred.
• Local nurses are accepted with a rate difference.
• Required certifications: BLS and ACLS.

Preferred Skills and Certifications:

• Certification in NIHSS.
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and hemodialysis management.
• Competency in accessing ports and performing central line blood draws.
• Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and orthopedic trauma.
• Knowledge of wound care and management using wound vac systems.

Job Details:

• Patient Ratios: Target of 1:6 for Medical/Surgical/Telemetry or 1:4 for PCU level patients.
• Scheduled shift: Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week.
• Maximum of 7 days of requested time off allowed.
• Weekend work is required every other weekend.
• Expected to participate in Storm/Hurricane Teams and may need to report during catastrophic events.

Unit Overview:

The Inpatient Holding Area (EDIP) functions within the Emergency Department, serving as a transitional space for patients awaiting formal admission to various inpatient units.

Special Equipment:

• Cardiac monitors
• IV pumps
• Other standard monitoring systems

Systems Used:

• Medication and documentation managed through Pyxis and Epic systems.
• Communication facilitated via SBAR protocols.

Orientation and Scrubs:

• Orientation duration: 12 hours.
• Required scrub color: Navy.

All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. Due to a high turnover rate, all applicants will be interviewed.
