Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Telemetry
Job Details
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Med/Surg Telemetry team. This position involves caring primarily for stroke patients and those undergoing neurosurgery, as well as other neurological diagnoses such as epilepsy and subdural hematomas. Below are the key details regarding this role:
Responsibilities
- Manage and care for patients on a Med/Surg telemetry unit.
- Monitor, interpret, and manage dysrhythmias.
- Perform IV starts and administer medications as directed.
- Float to other Med/Surg and Telemetry areas as needed, which may include COVID care units.
- Participate in unit orientation training and adhere to scheduled shifts, including every other weekend.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience.
- Travelers should have completed at least 2 successful contracts before applying; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
- Certification requirements include BCLS and NIHSS; ACLS is preferred but not required.
- Must pass EKG Testing prior to start.
Unit Information
The unit features:
- A 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with training provided for nurses.
- A daily census of approximately 42 patients across 43 rooms/beds.
- Unit uses PYXIS for medication management and EPIC for electronic health records.
Work Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
- Contract lengths available for 13-26 weeks.
- Required to complete 36 or 48 hours weekly depending on contract specifics.
Additional Information
- Any scheduled time off including weekends will be compensated in accordance with unit needs.
- Frequent floating may be required to ensure adequate staffing across various units.
- Scrubs should be navy blue.
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed and should be discussed during orientation.
