Registered Nurse (RN) – MS/Tele Float

Job Overview

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in MS/Tele float within an ED Holding Support Unit located in a float pool. The unit accommodates patients in the Emergency Department who are awaiting inpatient beds, and the nurse may care for patients with varying medical and surgical adult diagnoses, including potential PCU level patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients in an ED Holding unit.
• Monitor and manage telemetry cases, including remote telemetry monitoring.
• Float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed, accommodating various patient diagnoses.
• Utilize rapid response teams and manage critical situations effectively.
• Administer blood products, manage colostomy care, feeding tubes, and renal failure cases.
• Perform phlebotomy and PICC line management, including insulin and heparin administration.
• Implement isolation precautions and manage chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care.
• Interpret ABGs and assist with non-invasive airway management and oral suctioning.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years nursing experience required; traveler experience preferred.
• Required Skills: Proficient in MS/Tele nursing practices, interpretation, and management of dysrhythmias.
• Certifications: BLS and ACLS required.
• Preferred Skills: Additional certifications in NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, and experience with orthopedic trauma.

Job Details

• Patient Ratios: Target ratios of 1:6 for MS/Tele and 1:4 for PCU level patients.
• Shift Details: Night shifts for 36 or 48 hours per week; every other weekend is required.
• Contract Length: Accepts contracts from 13 weeks up to February 27, 2027, with a 7-day maximum for RTO requests.
• Unit Orientation: 12-hour orientation provided.
• Special Equipment: Standard equipment including cardiac monitors and IV pumps.
• Scheduling: Manager schedules used for staffing.

Additional Details

Contract staff may be part of a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and may be required to report to work during catastrophic events or mass casualties. Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to commencing the role.
