Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)

Job Description

We seek a compassionate and skilled Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to provide high-quality care in a Long Term Care (LTC) setting. The OTA will work closely with patients to promote their independence and enhance their quality of life through tailored therapeutic interventions.

Responsibilities

• Treatment Implementation: Implement specialized therapy plans developed by the Occupational Therapist (OT), assisting patients in therapeutic exercises and activities aimed at improving their motor skills and coordination.
• ADL Training: Educate patients on performing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and eating, utilizing adaptive techniques as necessary.
• Adaptive Equipment Instruction: Guide patients and their families in the proper use of adaptive tools and equipment, including reachers, mobility aids, and modified kitchen utensils.
• Monitoring and Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of patient progress, behavioral observations, and safety concerns, and communicate findings to the supervising OT for necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
• Education and Support: Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients, while also training caregivers on how to effectively assist with home programs.
• Operational Tasks: Prepare treatment areas, clean equipment, and handle basic administrative responsibilities such as scheduling.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in a Long Term Care (LTC) setting is required.
• Must possess a valid Texas or compact license.
