Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical – Neuro

Job Details

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Medical Surgical – Neuro unit. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of neuro-related diagnoses and experience in managing stroke patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage patient care in a fast-paced environment.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Perform IV starts and telemetry monitoring.
• Interpret dysrhythmias and manage patient conditions accordingly.
• Float to other Medical Surgical/Telemetry areas as needed.
• Participate in patient education and care planning.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year in a MedSurg setting.
• Must have experience with neuro patients, including care for stroke and neurosurgery cases.
• Must be a licensed Registered Nurse.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BCLS)
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start.
• ACLS certification preferred, but not required.

Work Schedule

• Shift: 12-hour nights
• Required to work every other weekend.
• Floating between units may be required.

Unit Information

• Patient ratio: 1:6
• Daily census: approximately 42 patients
• Unit features a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
• Unit systems in use include PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR.

Orientation and Training

All new hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation of 36 hours to ensure familiarity with unit operations and policies.

Scrubs

Navy scrubs are required.
