Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical – Neuro
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Medical Surgical – Neuro unit. This role involves providing high-quality care to patients primarily focused on stroke management, neurosurgery, and other neurological diagnoses.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver patient-centered care in accordance with established protocols.
- Monitor and assess patient conditions, including telemetry and dysrhythmia management.
- Administer medications and perform treatments as prescribed.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Document all patient interactions and progress accurately.
- Participate in patient education and support.
- Adapt to floating requirements to various Med/Surg/Tele areas as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years with at least 1 year of direct Med Surg experience.
- Traveler Experience: Candidates must have at least 2 successful contracts as travelers.
- Certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS are required; ACLS is preferred but not mandatory.
Work Conditions
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts.
- Patient Ratios: Typical ratio is 1:6.
- Scheduling: Contracts are available for 13-26 weeks with options for 36 or 48 hours per week.
- Travelers are expected to work every other weekend and may have to make up missed shifts as per unit requirements.
- Staff may be required to float to other Med/Surg/Telemetry areas, including COVID care units.
- Unit orientation consists of 36 hours of training.
- Scrubs provided are navy blue.
Unit Details
- This unit specializes in caring for stroke patients and has a dedicated Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
- Daily census is approximately 42 patients, with 43 available beds.
- Unit technology includes PYXIS and EPIC for electronic documentation and medication management.
Additional Information
- All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to the start of their assignment.
- Block scheduling is not guaranteed.
- It is essential to have prior Med/Surg experience to qualify for this position.
