Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Telemetry

Job Overview

The Med/Surg Telemetry Unit is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and will join a dynamic team focused on delivering exceptional patient care during the night shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret telemetry data, including the management of dysrhythmias.
• Provide care for patients with a variety of medical diagnoses such as diabetes, dementia, COVID-19, pneumonia, and CHF.
• Administer medications including blood products and manage IVs, heparin, and insulin protocols.
• Perform essential nursing duties including bowel obstruction care, colostomy management, feeding tube care, and pre/post hemodialysis management.
• Utilize Rapid Response and Code teams in urgent situations.
• Participate in patient assessments, care planning, and provide post-operative care.
• Adhere to isolation precautions and utilize appropriate PPE.
• Utilize electronic documentation systems effectively.
• Provide care in accordance with organizational policies and protocols during storm or catastrophic events.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry nursing.
• Certifications: BLS, NIHSS.
• Strong skills in interpreting and managing telemetry systems.
• Experience with wound care, including the use of wound vacs, and chest tube management.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond effectively to emergencies.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Charge nurse experience is preferred.
• ACLS certification and Telemetry monitoring experience.
• Experience with post-operative care for cardiac and bariatric surgeries.
• Familiarity with community hospital environments.

Work Schedule

This position is for night shifts, with expected working hours of 18:45 to 07:15. Candidates must be available to work 36 to 48 hours weekly and are required to be on-call for weekends on an every-other-weekend basis. Flexible scheduling is available with a maximum of 7 days RTO.

Patient Population

Care will be primarily provided to patients with diagnoses including but not limited to renal failure, surgical recovery, GI bleeds, anemia, hypertension, and respiratory conditions.

Unit Orientation

Successful candidates will complete a 24-hour unit orientation to ensure familiarity with unit protocols and systems.

Additional Information

Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. This role may require floating to different units as necessary.

Scrubs

Applicants are required to wear navy blue or white scrubs while on duty.
