Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in a progressive care unit (PCU). The ideal candidate will be experienced and proficient in managing patients in critical conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide care for patients with arterial lines and vasoactive drips.
• Monitor telemetry for dysrhythmias and manage their treatment.
• Administer IV insulin and blood products, ensuring proper protocols are followed.
• Perform central and peripheral line care/management, as well as PICC line management.
• Utilize rapid response teams for patient care and intervention.
• Care for patients post-surgery, including OB complications and various surgeries.
• Assist with non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy care.
• Recognize and manage dysrhythmias effectively.
• Ensure adherence to isolation precautions and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a PCU, ICU, or similar setting.
• Must have strong drip experience and proficiency in IV starts, telemetry, and conscious sedation.
• Current certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIH.
• Experience with bedside telemetry monitors and remote backup systems.
• Ability to float to sister units as needed.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to commencing the position.

Scheduling Information

• 12-hour night shifts: 18:45 – 07:15.
• Target patient nurse ratios of 1:3-4.
• Weekend work is required every other weekend.
• Available contract lengths: 13 weeks or more.

Special Procedures and Equipment

• Experience required with common medications used on the unit including Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, and others.
• Knowledge of managing patients on a maximum of one pressor drip; multiple drips necessitate transfer to ICU.
• Utilization of Pyxis and Epic systems for medication management and patient records.

Dress Code

Scrubs should be navy, white, or a combination of both.
