CT Technologist

Position Purpose: To provide diagnostic imaging services to patients utilizing various imaging modalities, ensuring precise image acquisition, patient safety, and superior patient care. Emphasizes patient education by clearly explaining procedures, equipment, and exams to promote understanding and cooperation.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties:

• Performs specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners, power injectors, and related equipment following prescribed radiation safety procedures.
• Positions patients for CT scans, employing patient positioning devices and protective equipment as necessary.
• Conducts exams based on Imaging Department Protocols or protocols established with the Radiologist.
• Assists the Radiologist with routine and interventional CT procedures.
• Evaluates CT scans for technical quality, organizes processed images in sequence of exposure, and labels them appropriately.
• Films/transmits images to the Image Archival System.
• Dispenses and orders oral contrast for patients undergoing CT scans.
• Demonstrates proficiency in IV placement for contrast administration and safe IV contrast administration.
• Exhibits advanced knowledge in radiographic procedures, including X-ray and Fluoroscopy, as well as C-arm and OR work.
• Practices radiation safety, adhering to ALARA standards.
• Operates equipment consistently with the manufacturer’s recommendations and troubleshoots equipment problems, contacting a service engineer when necessary.
• Keeps accurate patient records in the electronic health record (EHR), including charging of procedures and supplies.
• May be required to perform other functions as needed within the imaging department.
• Shows flexibility by assisting in other modalities and adjusting schedules as necessary.
• Obtains additional training or certification as required and assists with clerical duties, phone reception, and patient transportation when needed.
• Assists, trains, or cross-trains imaging staff members as directed.
• Maintains supply inventory by ordering, stocking, and keeping items organized.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for positions requiring driving, with a valid driver’s license).
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Successful completion of a background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
• Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technologist program – Required.
• ARRT registration in Radiology (R), including Computed Tomography (CT) – Required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must obtain within 90 days of hire or transfer – Required.
• Two years of prior experience as a practicing CT Technologist – Preferred.
• Cross-training in other modalities, such as MRI, DEXA, and Mammography – Preferred.
• Experience with electronic records, including PACS and RIS/HIS – Preferred.
