Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a dynamic and challenging environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in labor and delivery nursing, with a commitment to providing high-quality care to expectant mothers and newborns.

Shift Details

• Shift Type: 12-Hour Day Shifts
• Guaranteed Weekly Hours: 36 hours
• Weekend Requirement: 4 shifts in a 4-week period
• Floating: To postpartum as needed; NICU background required for specific cases.

Unit Information

• Number of L&D Beds: 10 beds
• Number of Postpartum Beds: 18 beds
• Number of Triage Beds: 2 beds
• Birth Rate: Approximately 130 births per month
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:1 near delivery, 1:2 otherwise, 1:4 for couplets in postpartum.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to mothers and newborns during the labor and delivery process.
• Assist in surgical procedures, including Cesarean sections, and provide post-operative care.
• Monitor fetal heart rates and maternal vitals using the Obix fetal monitoring system.
• Coordinate with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Utilize electronic medical records (Cerner) for documentation and patient management.
• Participate in unit orientation and ongoing education as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery nursing; travel experience preferred.
• Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring.
• Experience in scrubbing, recovering, and circulating for Cesarean sections.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to handle a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.

Additional Information

• Shared charge nurse role between Labor and Delivery and Postpartum units.
• No on-call requirement.
• Major and minor holiday coverage expected.
• RT and pharmacy services available 24/7.
• Orientation: 3 shifts specific to the floor provided.
