Histology Technician

Position Overview

The Histology Technician is responsible for performing routine and complex histologic procedures, including processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, and immunohistochemistry. This role involves conducting quality control on completed slides, identifying issues that may impact diagnosis and results, and maintaining comprehensive documentation of all observations, tests, and equipment used in the laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex histologic procedures, including processing, embedding, and microtomy.
• Conduct routine and special stains, as well as immunohistochemistry.
• Implement quality control measures on completed slides.
• Identify and address problems that may affect diagnosis and results.
• Document observations from tests and maintain records of equipment maintenance.
• Comply with established laboratory policies and procedures.

Work Schedule

This position operates on a daytime schedule, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend requirements and holiday rotation. There is on-call coverage approximately every two months.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years full-time experience in histotechnology.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in Epic Beaker.
• Certifications: Must hold BLS and HT(ASCP) certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC).
• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in histotechnology, biology, or a related scientific discipline is preferred.
• Additional Experience: 5 years of experience with IHC and special stains is preferred.

• Radius rule: Local candidates within 60 miles will be considered.
• Guaranteed hours may be subject to cancellation by the facility once every two weeks.
• Travelers should note that during hurricane season (June through November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams.
