Histology Technician

Position Overview

The Histology Technician will perform routine and complex histologic procedures, including processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, and immunohistochemistry. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of diagnostic results through quality control and problem identification.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex histologic procedures.
• Process, embed, and prepare samples for microtomy.
• Conduct routine and special stains as required.
• Perform immunohistochemical procedures.
• Conduct quality control on completed slides.
• Identify issues that may affect diagnosis and results.
• Document observations from tests and maintain accurate records.
• Document maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Adhere to established laboratory policies and procedures.

Schedule Details

This position requires working weekdays, Monday to Friday, from 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM, with occasional weekend rotations and holiday coverage. Additionally, on-call coverage may be required on weekends approximately every two months.

Qualifications

• Required Experience: A minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in histotechnology.
• Preferred Experience: Proficiency with Epic Beaker software.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in histotechnology, biology, or a related scientific discipline is preferred.
• Certifications: BLS certification and HT(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) are required.
• Preferred Skills: Experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC) and special stains.

Additional Information

All employees may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season, which runs from June through November. During this time, new or extended assignments should be approached with caution.

This position is located in a teaching hospital recognized for its Magnet status and Level 1 Trauma center, boasting 865 staffed beds. The use of Epic for charting is required.

Parking is available with a one-time payment for a pass, applicable only during nights and weekends.
