NICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Purpose

The NICU RN Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering safe, quality healthcare through a family-centered approach, ensuring the stabilization of the family unit by providing safety and security. This role requires knowledge of growth, development, and pathophysiology specific to neonates, allowing for effective assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of two (2) years of acute care NICU RN experience is required.

Licenses, Certification, and Registration

• Current unencumbered licensure to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association is required.
• NRP certification is required within 90 days of employment.
• STABLE certification is required within 12 months of employment.

• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and utilize professional judgment in emergencies.
• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
• Effective collaboration and teamwork abilities.
• Capability to serve as a team leader.
• Clear and constructive communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong organizational and delegation skills.

Unit Details

• Daily census management and interdisciplinary support services available (e.g., respiratory services, interpretation services, pharmacy).
• Standard patient-to-staff ratios maintained.
• Articles included for patient teaching and developmental care.

Skills Required

• Administration of blood products and anti-seizure medications.
• APGAR scoring and blood glucose monitoring.
• Placement and management of central lines and feeding tubes.
• Ventilator management and therapeutic hypothermia.
• Comprehensive management of neonatal conditions such as hyperbilirubinemia and sepsis workup.
• Support for breastfeeding and proper handling of breast milk.
