Job Description
Surgical Technician
Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technician is responsible for ensuring the care and safety of patients during surgical procedures. This role includes providing technical assistance in the Operating Room while maintaining knowledge relevant to the varying ages of patients served.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare the Operating Room in a timely and organized manner alongside the nursing staff for surgical procedures.
- Correctly practice principles of asepsis to ensure a sterile environment.
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize all equipment in the Operating Room and Endoscopic Lab.
- Coordinate patient care with the RN Circulator.
- Stock and replace Central Sterile (CS) items; prepare CS inventory sheets.
- Maintain a sterile field during surgical procedures and assist the physician as required.
- Organize and manage correct instrumentation for availability during procedures.
- Follow verbal physician orders within the operating suite.
- Handle surgical specimens appropriately.
- Compile necessary equipment on the surgical field.
- Document unusual occurrence reports and other departmental forms promptly as required.
- Perform CPR as needed and handle all applicable instruments and equipment proficiently.
- Clean and wrap instruments for sterilization after use.
- Transport patients to and from the Operating Room efficiently.
- Monitor and maintain surgical equipment, including performing maintenance and repairs when necessary.
- Complete duties as a technical scrub within the Operating Room.
- Prepare the room and equipment for Endoscopy procedures.
- Maintain a cooperative disposition within the Operating Room environment.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Note: This position will not accept an in-state traveler unless they have exceeded a 250-mile radius.
