Cardiac Sonographer

Shift and Schedule

This position requires a commitment of four days per week with ten-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The start date is immediate.

Required Certifications and Licenses

• A.R.D.M.S./CCI registered or registry eligible or comparable national accreditation.
• State of New Mexico Echo Sonographer License.
• BLS certification issued through the American Heart Association.

Weekend and On-Call Requirements

No weekend or on-call duties are required for this position.

Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer performs diagnostic echocardiograms on adult and pediatric patients, ensuring high-quality image acquisition and patient care.

Responsibilities

• Conducts technically proficient 2D, M-mode, and Doppler cardiac exams.
• Coordinates activities with other hospital departments, including scheduling exams and transporting patients.
• Assists cardiologists by preparing and measuring M-modes and providing any pertinent information for diagnosis.
• Acts as a liaison for the timely delivery and collection of dictations.
• Addresses patients’ needs during exams and reports any changes in their condition to the physician or nurse in charge.
• Orders echo supplies and maintains cleanliness and organization in the examination rooms.
• Logs exams and files patient records accurately in the department.
• Engages in Performance Improvement activities at the department, interdepartmental, and hospital-wide levels.
• Maintains quality control over equipment and examinations performed, coordinating repairs as necessary.
• Stays updated on advances in the field of echocardiography and seeks mentorship from cardiologists regarding new skills and knowledge.
• Assists with other cardiac procedures as needed.

Requirements

Education

High school diploma or equivalent, along with a two-year allied health education program related to patient care, is preferred. Relevant allied health occupations include, but are not limited to, diagnostic medical sonographer, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and registered nurse.

Experience

A minimum of two years of actively performing echocardiograms is preferred.
