Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical – Neuro

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Medical Surgical nursing with a focus on Neuro to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients in a fast-paced environment, ensuring the best patient outcomes.

Job Details

• Ratios: 1:6 patient-to-nurse ratio
• Contract Length: 13-26 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts
• Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
• Floating: Required to float to other Med/Surg/Tele departments, including possible COVID care units

Patient Population

This unit primarily cares for stroke patients, but also treats those undergoing neurosurgery and other neurological diagnoses such as epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, among others.

Special Unit Details

This medical surgical unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), where staff are trained specifically for neurological monitoring.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of direct MedSurg experience
• Experience as a traveler, with at least 2 successful contracts prior to application
• Local nurses are accepted
• Skills in IV start and telemetry, as well as interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS required; ACLS preferred

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• ACLS certification

Work Environment

Travelers are expected to adhere to the scheduling type of preferred scheduling. If a traveler calls out of a shift, they must make up that day within the same week or at the end of their contract. All staff are required to wear navy scrubs.

Orientation

A comprehensive orientation program of 36 hours will be provided to all new hires.

• Block scheduling may not always be guaranteed
• MediSurg experience is mandatory
